Anyone visit Rosslyn Chapel, about 6 miles outside Edinburgh? Will be in Edinburgh in May and was wondering if it was worth a trip to see. Thanks in advance!

It's probably too late, but for future readers...
I went to Rosslyn Chapel a few months ago, and I enjoyed it. If you're expecting to find some Da Vinci Code mystique, you'll probably be disappointed - the museum and guides dispel that myth pretty quickly. However, if you're looking for some exquisite detail in architecture, then you'll be much more pleased. The detail in the interior is incredible, and many of the stories behind the carvings are fascinating as well. Make sure you get a guided tour - they're free (even though the entrance fee is a bit outrageous at £7.50). When I went in November 2009, there was a metal canopy on the roof, which looked like a big, ugly tin hat. It's actually been that way for the past 13 years, to prevent deterioration (the chapel you see in the film isn't actually the real Rosslyn Chapel). However, the canopy is scheduled to come off very soon, perhaps in the next week or two, barring any setbacks. |

Sounds like an interesting place to visit even if it isn't like in the book.
