Default Sleep Sheet question

I've checked all the threads on sleep sheets and noticed that they are all at least three years old. Things can change in three years so I'm wondering if a sleep sheet is still a must for backpacking in western Europe.

If so what's the best? Silk, cotton or blend?

Mine is flanal (sp?). I still take it because it's very thin and I've used it in train stations, airports, and some hostels where they don't provide sheets for free.

(flannel!)
I use HI hostels, and beds are always fitted with clean sleepsheets; therefore, I don't carry one.

All the hostels I've been to (admittedly not that many) provided sheets. They were clean. I would rather carry my own (travel size) pillow than a sleep sheet. The pillows in hostels are pitiful.

aw the sleep sheet threads! those really were a hot topic, but unfortunately i think they all got deleted with the old board.

anywho, i LOVE my sleepsheet. never travel without it. that being said in all my travels i've only come across the need to use it once or twice, when i found hairs on my pillow/dirty sheets etc. BUT i use it all the time - whether there are clean sheets or not! i just like the feeling of being snuggled into it and not having to question at all whether my pillow is clean, plus it's super small and takes up no space. it keeps me warm when i'm cold but doesn't make me hot when it's cool! and like noah mentioned, i too have used it in airports, on planes, on trains... road trips... all.the.time. i have 2!

Yeah, I use mine whether the place provides sheets or not too. I'm proud to say I've never been the victim of bed bug bites either, which I think in part has to do with using my sleep sheet.

I was at REI today... the silk sleep sheet was extremely light, the others were a LOT heavier. but... the others were around $30... the silk one was $60.

and the conclusion of the matter is.... most likely don't need one, but if I'm going pack one and many prefer to, get a silk one. Thanks everyone.
